Yes! You got the interview for your dream job. Are you ready?
It may have taken a long time to get this interview or happened quicker than you expected. You mentioned to a friend that you are thinking of going back to work, and her friend’s company is looking for people with your background, and they are hiring now.
This happened to me. I was a stay-at-home-mom and my daughter was starting pre-school, (she is a senior at high school now), I just got my green card, and I was ready to get back to work. I mentioned to a friend that I want to start looking. I was just starting to think about it. I hadn’t even updated my resume. A few days later he called to say that he met with a CEO who is looking for an HR person with experience working with multicultural environments. That was me! I was excited but also nervous. I had to update my resume, refresh my interviewing skills NOW! I was HR, interviewing and resumes was my expertise but doing it from one moment to the next was very stressful.
I often hear women say “I haven’t got any interviews yet, what’s the point of working on my interviewing skills now”? Well, when you get the interview it may be from one moment to the next. Give yourself the time to prepare. Don’t add extra stress to the process waiting for the last moment. Have you considered what it means to prepare for an interview? If you want to get the job, it is worth putting the effort into it.
Check out the 2018 interviewing trends to know what to expect. It is safe to assume that all interviews will have some similar components, requiring you to talk about yourself and your experience. It is never too early to perfect those responses and then just tweak them according to the position you are interviewing for. Working on this is also a good process to learn a lot about yourself and understand what is difficult for you to talk about, or what areas you need to improve.
