5 Body language tips for job interviews

Your body language tells a lot about you before you open your mouth! The belief is that 55% of communication is body language, 38% is the tone of voice, and 7% is the actual words spoken. Here are 5 body language tips to creating a great impression in an interview:

1. Powerful Posture

Your posture, standing or sitting up straight and not fidgeting exalts confidence. Stand, or sit in a powerful position, do not be all closed up, feeling and looking small and powerless.

2. Eye Contact

Eye contact is very important. Look people in the eye, it gives a more confident and honest impression, not doing so may be revealing a sense of insecurity, shyness and suspiciousness.

3. A good hand shake

Your handshake should not be too limp; you don’t want to seem weak. Not too strong, you don’t want to inflict pain on the other person, seem overpowering or make people wonder what you are trying to overcompensate for. Stand up straight, make eye contact, hold out your right hand, give a good firm shake (2 seconds long), smile and greet the person by name!

4. Look Engaged

Sit forward when talking with people, to look interested and engaged in the conversation. Nod your head while listening to show attentiveness.

5. Smile!

A smile makes you more likable, friendly, enthusiastic, and you seem happy to be there.
