Are you suddenly feeling the Monday Morning Blues?

Is the start of your workweek triggering overwhelming feelings of anxiety, sadness, or stress?
Clients are sharing with me that they are missing their usual passion and motivation on Monday mornings, something they have not felt before.

Are you feeling it too?

Lean into your discomfort, don’t just dismiss it. Take the time to ask: Why am I feeling this way? What has changed? Your role may be exactly the same but yes, there is no longer work/life balance and boundaries, there is just life. The boundaries have shifted.
On Monday, you are still at home and for many, apart from the difficulties of managing remote work, there is caring and entertaining kids with no daycare/school.

In leaning further into the discomfort, it seemed that for some they were also missing the Monday morning social interactions. Yes, that morning coffee with colleagues and the  question “how was your weekend?” may be more meaningful than we thought. The group social zooms that most people are now fatigued from, don’t really replace this Monday morning routine.

People who have lost their jobs are also feeling the Monday morning blues, grieving about the job and interactions they no longer have.

So what can you do?

If there are specific people, who were your usual Monday morning go to to catch up, they probably miss you too. Have your Monday morning coffee with those people, put it on the calendar, set up the week up to a better start.

As a manager, check in with your employees. Are they suddenly struggling on Monday? What are they missing? If your group has a Monday morning scrum, how can you address it there? It could be as easy as taking the time to add some social interaction to it.

If you have been laid off or furloughed, have a Monday morning plan. Identify what you can do to uplift your spirits. It may just be clear goals and an action plan to commit to, to get you busy and moving forward.

Here is to a good week!
